@ana993 Right? It's just that in many ways, Joel represents a simpler life and connection to maintain for the kids? It is unfair to Benjamin, but I agree that Joel is not being shown to grow much from his experiences of the last year--but maybe that's immaterial to Midge in this new context. She's no longer concerned with building and maintaining a relationship and instead her career.

Joel is so annoying... I can't believe she went back to him after he dumped her twice and kept blaming her for the break up. Benjamin is way better for her.
