amy in the pirate costume? yeah im gay. literally the only things i have to say about this episode are things concerning amy, rory, and eleven.

firstly, matt's acting in this episode is incredibly good. i know that matt does a tremendous job of really showcasing the raw anger and angst that eleven goes through, but this episode (besides a good man goes to war and the doctor's wife) is a FANTASTIC example of that. the way he reprimanded captain avery and told him it was his fault that it happened, that it was his addiction to the gold that turned him to pirate and is causing him to potentially lose his son.... that anger is potent and you can see that it seems genuine, which makes sense bc he is acting, but its so in tune and so in character with what we know about eleven and matt just does a great job of portraying that.

amy? she's my girlfriend. and she's also rory's wife. and we're all okay with that! the scenes with amy and rory on both the spaceship and the tardis.... MY GOD. karen gillan is a fantastic actress and while most of her recent work doesn't quite show that due to lackluster storytelling and writing, THIS episode of doctor who shows it. she's at her best when she has emotional dialogue and you can see it in the way amy looks at, talks to, and literally cries for rory. those scenes are some of the BEST in doctor who history. amy and rory are really the best relationship to ever have graced the show of doctor who. they're emotional and loving and different to the other pairings on the show and you can just see it. i think part of it is due to the acting that karen gillan and arthur darvill give off tbh as they have insane chemistry. "why does it have to be me? why do i have to be the one to save you?" "because i know you'll never give up." THAT GETS TO ME EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!! and the tardis scene where shes crying over his body and saying he believed in her and trusted her to bring him back to life and the track is playing in the background and your heart just BREAKS. its honestly one of the best scenes in doctor who. not to mention, matt's facial expressions and his acting in that scene is so good too.

finally, the mentions of the beginning two parter all throughout this season w the doctors death at lake silencio and amy being pregnant and then not pregnant in the same second are what make this season so great. doctor who is at its best when it has continuing arcs and an actual cohesive storyline and thats one of the reasons, s7 lacked so much and why the following seasons did as well. they all lacked what s6 and all the prior seasons did in terms of storytelling and writing.
