Part of my 2022 Martial Arts Mondays

I've no idea why I have been so hard on these films in the past. I guess I was grumpier back then.

Anyway...

One thing I DO agree with myself on is that I have seldom seen Jackie Chan be so free to be a goof as in The Young Master. It actually seems rather effortless on his part. It's also highly amusing. It's been quite a while since I laughed this much at silly stuff like in The Young Master.

So...we established that it is a funny film. What about the real reason you watch a Jackie Chan Movie? Well...the martial arts is top-notch. The choreography and talent on display here is insane, and as usual, Jackie destroys his body for our viewing pleasure, again and again. Jackie Chan's own brand of physical comedy still holds up. It's both impressive and darn funny.

So, to sum up...

The Young Master, while not one of my all-time favorite Jackie Chan movies, it still ranks very high on the entertainment scale. Well worth a watch, especially if you get your hands on the 88 Films release. Great stuff!!!

The plot in The Young master is absolutely atrocious. The whole movie is essentially just a series of highly choreographed fights and gags, BUT...this doesn't mean it isn't entertaining in its own way. I've seldom seen Jackie Chan this free to be a martial arts goof, and I actually found myself laughing quite a lot.

A masterpiece The Young Master is not, and far from Jackie Chan's best efforts, but it is funny and a decent watch regardless.
