I remember seeing this lots of times on What A Cartoon show, it's probably one of my top 10 fav. episodes from that show. Pretty much every single factor that the Courage show is known for shows up in this pilot. It has more in common with the show it was spun off into than most actual pilots do for their shows. The only notable difference is that Muriel and Eustace have no dialogue.
This pilot episode took me by surprise because it's almost creepier than most episodes that I remember from the series. Funny thing is that the creepiest thing here isn't the titular Chicken from outer space but actually Eustace. He ends up going through a nightmare fueled transformation where the creepiness level is cranked up to 100. The build up to it, the music, his laughter, his teeth all effectively made it creepier as it went on, it was creepy to watch even as an adult. For some reason, I'm not even sure how to explain it, the art style here (which is different from the show's art style) adds a lot to the creepiness factor.
If you have never seen this episode of Courage it is definitely worth taking the time to watch it. It will also add some sense to 2 sequel episodes that the series had to this one.
