Spider-Man 2 is a great example of a sequel done just right - it's bigger and bolder compared to the original; it improves on the story, characters and action and it's a natural continuation of the story that began in Spider-Man.
Visually it’s more impressive than the predecessor and it largely holds up today.
This film also features what is arguably the greatest Spidey film villain so far - Dock Ock is fearsome, memorable and surprisingly likeable
Alfred Molina in the greatest role of his career, creating a believable villain and a likeable character. He is far from a simple or one-dimensional villain and has a satisfying story arc.
Filled with memorable moments - the hospital scene, the bank robbery, THAT train sequence and the final fight, to name just a few.
The symbolism hidden within the story of the film gives the story much needed depth, while the relationships between the central characters evolve greatly from the first movie.
The action scenes and all scenes involving Molina are the greatest parts of the film.
The Bad:
Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst still feel awkward and bland and they still lack on-screen chemistry together
It annoys me how the romantic relationship between Peter and MJ constantly swing back and forth without ever actually getting anywhere
Verdict:
Still one of the best superhero movies, Spider-Man 2 is a sequel worthy of its action scenes, its strong symbolism and its amazing villain.
