I have to say this tv special is pretty cool and surprisingly unlike most DB movies it actually has a slightly bigger focus on the story. I really like that we get to learn a small bit more about Goku's past, meet his father, and even getting to see bits of the Saiyan planet. We don't get any Shakespearean levels of story telling but it still is quite intriguing thanks to the fact that we never knew much about the history of this universe before this was released. I was hoping we'd learn more about the relation that Frieza and King Vegeta had but it was never brought up but at least we get a small Prince Vegeta and Nappa cameo, I wonder why there wasn't even a mention of Raditz. There isn't really a lot of action but Bardock's final stand was pretty fitting for a warrior's grand finale. I definitely felt nostalgic after seeing Grandpa Gohan at the very end, got me teary eyed.

I'm surprised they went with Dodoria to have some attention, I thought Zarbon was more impressive than him in the series. Can't really say much for Frieza since his only important moment is when he destroys the Saiyan planet so he's just the same as he was in the Planet Namek saga, it's still amusing how his henchmen are always terrified of him.

The only negative points I have to say are that I really wished we could've had a bit more time to get to know Bardock's crew a little more, it would have made their passing a lot more emotional. To this day I still wonder why we didn't even get a mention of Goku's mother. Finally for some reason the voices of Bardock's crew in the English dub really irritate me lol.
