Garlic Jr. Saga Ep. 108 - 117

This saga is actually very unique if you ask me. It is a saga that is entirely filler, Goku never makes a single appearance in this saga, and it is the only saga in the series that is a continuation of one the non-canon films. Returning from the Dead Zone film we've got Garlic JR along with new henchmen, the Spice Boys. This time our heroes end up being Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo and they even get help from Kami and Mr. Popo. The real MVP here is definitely Gohan in my opinion who takes out just about every villain he comes across. It's honestly filled to the brim with fight scenes and I agree that they might feel like they drag on for a bit but I'm just thankful that it didn't drag for 4 hours like the previous final bout. It all honestly ends up feeling a lot like the original Dragon Ball; the plot, the humor, the villains all feel like they're ripped straight out of classic Dragon Ball. From what I've heard this chapter gets some hate, I'm not saying this arc is a masterpiece but for an arc that's entirely filler I find it holds up pretty decently.

I have to admit I think I like Garlic Jr in this saga a lot more than I did in the Dead Zone film. He is more or less the same as he was in the film but since he was in a lot more action this time around I found his fight scenes to be a lot more entertaining and brutal than he was in the film. He is also quite a creepy villain and I actually like his Hulk-like transformation. His henchmen, the Spice Boys, are also a lot more memorable than the ones he had in the film, these guys actually attempt to have differing personalities compared to the ones from the film.

My negative points would have to be that I actually think it would've been better to leave Vegeta's scenes out, they don't really amount to anything at all. The actions of the ghosts of the guardians of earth didn't make any sense to me to be honest. Krillin's girlfriend is just a...stupid character, like so bad it hurts at some point. The fact that Garlic Jr is basically defeated the same exact way as he was in the movie is pretty dull but unfortunately thanks to plot that is honestly the only way it could've ended.

Trunks Saga Ep. 118 - 125

Another unique saga due to the fact that it's honestly just a gigantic plot dump. Simply put, a mysterious warrior from the future arrives to give the heroes warnings of the future. It does its job well in setting up for the upcoming saga leaving you incredibly curious about what's going to happen next and honestly feels like a nice breath of fresh air after the nonstop action we've had so far. The only action we get here is Trunks toying with Frieza and King Cold. It would've been awesome to see more of King Cold but honestly he was just there to show off how powerful Trunks was. I can't really even say much about Trunks since he's not around for very long but he definitely leaves a lasting impression leaving you excited for the next time he shows up.

[# of Fillers: 2]
1 filler is basically a training montage episode like all the others we've seen, only thing special are the Bulma & Vegeta moments. The other is what most viewers consider to be the most memorable and best filler episode, Goku and Piccolo's drivers ed class. Which actually does live up to it's reputation and definitely feels like an early Dragon Ball episode.

Androids Saga Ep. 126 - 139

This saga makes up very well for the lack of action in the previous one. While it is nothing as long as the Frieza saga's fight scenes these are still very entertaining. Vegeta's debut as a super saiyan is honestly just as awesome as Goku's super saiyan debut, though the fact that super saiyan Vegeta ends up defeated on his second fight is laughable lol. The saga even ends with a very good mysterious note that keeps the excitement for the next saga going. Unfortunately Goku is out of the picture for most of this saga thanks to an illness. This saga also marks the official start of the "Only saiyans matter and everyone else is useless" era of the Dragon Ball franchise.

Androids 19 & 20 feel like villains you could've seen back in the original Dragon Ball series, if I'm being honest I'm honestly not very impressed with them because the most they did was injure Yamcha and then get defeated. When we meet Androids 17 & 18 it feels like they're the transition from DB into DBZ. I find them to be a very intimidating pair because their motive isn't to obtain the Dragon Balls or simple revenge but their motive is that they just like to kill, heck the very first scene we see them they kill someone. I'll even admit I was left quite impressed after 18's battle with Vegeta, and the battle left me in suspense to see whatever the androids would do next. I can't say much about Android 16 since all we learn of him is that he refuses to battle anyone except Goku.
