[7.3/10] Another fun, kind of interstitial, mostly talk-y episode. Not much happens in this one -- it’s more about the conversations and the characters, but I like that.

The piece de resistance in this one is the quicksand conversation among Archer, Pam, and Parrot Krieger. The show’s definitely stumbled on a good grouping with the three of them, because their repartee is outstanding. I really like the semi-real place the show goes to with Archer and Pam here, even if it all turns out to be something of a trick (or at least an emotional defense) on the part of Pam. Archer complaining that Pam is a jinx, only for Pam to turn it around and challenge Archer on him not appreciating her sacrifices for their team is quite good. The whole quickstand predicament is the icing on the cake.

I also enjoyed Cyril having to deal with the remaining German pilots. Their obsession with Cheryl and his increasing frustrations with them were good laughs all around. Plus the tables being turned with Cheryl and Mallory was a nice bit as well, especially with Mallory figuring out that the idol is valuable, adding one more racer to the chase for it.

Overall, this was something like a water-treading (or quicksand-treading) episode given that nothing much of consequence happens, but that made room for some nice character scenes.
