Carol's Second Act 2019

How did Patricia Heaton went from Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle to this?

After 3 episodes, I give up. This show is so awful. The canned laughter is horribly timed and often inserted when there is no humor present. The writing is juvenile and lazy, absolutely no creativity - they basically recycle the same 2 jokes (”omg, Carol is old” and “white people are the worst”) over and over again. Truly ground breaking stuff.

The characters are caricatures, they are literally saying how they feel and they are totally typical characters, like from casting playbook:

  • the standard rich guy who doesn’t want anyone to know he’s rich;

  • stereotypical butch lesbian with negative attitude, she also an ethnic woman who got in because she is ethnic and her only purpose on the show is to shout, “I’m ethnic!!!!!”;

  • the gorgeous doctor who is full of himself;

  • there is no in-between for Heaton’s character - she is either acting too giddy and foolish for a grown woman, or she saves the day. And it’s going to get old fast if all the episodes involve Carol assigned the boring job but she finds something that experienced doctors missed and become the hero.

The writes should make the characters people, not archetypes. Also, I don’t like how the actors come off as acting in a stage play, it seems like they are reading cue cards.

@cutecruel I wholeheartedly agree. This show is awful, I wanted to quit halfway through the first episode and gave up on the show altogether after the 3rd. I even scrubbed it from my Trakt record.
