Castle Rock: Season 2

2x07 The Word

Some viewers are going to be upset that this episode takes a turn and recalls the history of why Castle Rock is such a corrupt and evil town. Annie's story has been very intriguing to this point and some will think the telling of "the cult of Amity" just messes up the season. But I think most of those viewers must not know the terrible history of Castle Rock, or should I say Jerusalem's Lot. If you're going to base the show on the writings of Stephen King and bring Annie and her misery (pun!) to the town, you have to have her interact with the supernatural element that resides there.

I am let down a bit by the fact that the evil takes the form of a cult and not vampires (as in King's writing) but I'm okay with seeing where this all ends up. The fact that the cult worships "The Kid" (the evil entity locked away in Shawshank Prison Block F) is a jaw-dropping tie-in to Season One. I like this idea as it links all of the characters' fates to a greater evil force. But please, writers, don't be afraid to kill off your characters. Don't turn this into just another endless story!

Pop Merrill's role becomes very interesting now. He seems like the only one who keen to the fact that something is very, very wrong with Ace, Chris and the crew up at the Marsten House (read 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King...you won't regret it).
