It was a good ending. Even knowing Eleanor was gonna be the last to leave I personally would have preferred if she would have become the head of The Good Place especially since they had Michael resign to become a human so it kinda bothered me when they decided to not mention who took over, and eventually when he came back it would have been a good parallel to the first episode (as cheesy as it would have been). Even when she went she didn't really convince me that she was actually ready to move on cause she seemed to be the only one with the drive to actually stay there. Did Michael actually keep his memories or not? Jason's exit was kinda watered down with that unnecessary extra appearance but hey whatever. I think in retrospect I would have preferred this season to be about this new system and them ironing out the kinks instead of the time jump even if the ending was the same cause personally the earlier half of this season was kind of a slog.

Michael doesn't run The Good Place anymore. He gave up that role when they redid The System now Vicky runs The Good Place. Michael's only role was on the committee to constantly fight FOR The System 2.0. He wasn't in charge. So when the judge disbands the committee because The System 2.0 is working and we don't need to debate it weekly and constantly have meetings to monitor it's progress... that's what introduces Michael's sense of purposelessness.

when [Eleanor] went [through the door] she didn't really convince me that she was actually ready to move on cause she seemed to be the only one with the drive to actually stay there
Fair. I feel the same way but there was never going to be an ending that really gave us that imo. This is the best way it could work because they picked a path and just went with it.

Did Michael actually keep his memories or not?
I think he did, here's why the scene that cinches it for me is when Eleanor is saying "He's learning new things" and it's Michael picking up a microwave meal and burning his hands laughing.... because he's getting burned for the first time ever and it's a novel experience for him. He had imo a good live as a human starting as the aged man he appeared to be and then when he died he goes though The System 2.0 and it's during The System 2.0 that he'll have his memories wiped and start over again and again. But until then he keeps his memories.

Jason's exit was kinda watered down with that unnecessary extra appearance but hey whatever
I mean they made him a monk. Everyone becomes what they were in season one. Eleanor becomes good, Chidi becomes decisive, Tahani becomes a sincerely good philanthropist content with herself and Jason.. he's the same except now he's actually achieved inner peace and enlightenment as a monk. I think the second appearance is what makes Jason's exit better I just think they sorta bungled how the second appearance went. They should have just found him meditating waiting knowing eventually someone would find him and then he could give Janet the necklace.

== I would have preferred this season to be about this new system and them ironing out the kinks==
I agree the new system has kinks that should be ironed out. I'm not a fan of the new system but  I get what they were going for I guess.
