I broke down when the officer hit Clay with the baton - at that point I just felt something in me snap and breakdown as I was watching it all unfold. His speech was powerful and on point and his reaction of picking up the gun was a result of the fear that has been pushed into his mind through this police-state culture the school has been enforcing - it should be a safe place TO BEGIN WITH, where so much monitoring wouldn't be needed. The stress, fear, potential trauma should be prevented well prior to bringing in any guns. Life is already fucked up as it is and a school should try to minimise that rather than extend it.
No one should have to go through any of this. There has to be a way of schools enforcing safety in the background, rather than shoving it in the children's faces.
