Camelot: Season 1

1x07 The Long Night

The episode was a bit confusing and I did not like very much. There was also some gratuitious sex and the storyline did have little to do with the subject matter of the Arthurian legends. There was no clever twist on the old tale in this episode. The characters are trapped in Morgana's castle after it is attacked, and await a battle in the morning. Being together in such a small place leads to quarrels, and the most stupid conflict turns out to be Gawaine fighting Leontes because Gawaine wants to leave the castle to attack the enemy on his own. Later on, Leontes proves to be quite a pious man as he spends his time praying, in contrast to the more cynical and sceptical Gawaine. However, the nun finds out that Leontes loves Guinevere more than anything else in his life, and later on, Morgana overhears Arthur confessing his love to Guinevere, as he believes this may be the last day of their lives. Now she has an idea how to destroy Camelot by driving a wedge between Leontes and Arthur and sowing discord. She uses her magic to make herself look like Igraine to infiltrate Camelot, and leaves with Arthur's party for the castle. These two events (finding out about the Guinevere-Leontes-Arthur triangle and turning herself into Igraine) are the most important events in the episode, as there is no epic battle, since it turns out that Morgana's men defeated the enemy. However, from Morgana's conversations with the nun it can be inferred that the entire attack was her ploy in order to win Arthur's trust.
