the fact that this is romola garai's debut foray into writing and directing shows in the occasional misstep with filming choices and the way the chronological mixups don't feel well placed at all times, but overall it's a very strong movie. not a lot of full blown horror, save for a couple jump scares and a gory climax, but unsettling and uncomfortable from beginning to end.
