I also I think it a show that gone bad, but it has nothing to do with the fact that they treat Ethan like a real child. I actually think Ethan is more than a machine. He is self aware and makes his own choices, he is not faking it. He would pass a Turing test without a problem. I actually like the philosophical implication of non organic life form, that is where I feel the show disappoints me in the second season they moved away from philosophy into a regular seen it before predictable thriller pattern.
If you don't like the show because you can't conceive and idea of such a thing as artificial intelligence that's your choice but the characters acting like Ethan is a real boy, is not bad character development.(There is bad char development in the show but this aspect isn't and instance of that.)

Just watched the last episode that aired. This show is trash. I really liked it at first but the story and the character development is so poor that I no longer can watch it. The fact that they continue to act like Ethan is a real child is just blowing my mind. He's a freaking robot. It's like if it were 1998 and you believed your tamagotchi was a person. Why did Halle Berry even sign on to this? Terrible, I feel like Sogourney Weaver in Aliens and I want to eliminate all androids. Terrible, terrible, terrible, just terrible.
Again I say MACHINE. You can't hit a cop because your robot son is missing. Luka from ER is the worst character in this show. Why not just reprogram your robot son to do what you want?
