The last movie (The Good Witch's Wonder, 2014) and the first episode of the show appear to be at least 7 to 8 years apart (judging by the age of Grace, the youngest daughter, who is probably 7 or 8 years old in the movie). Stuff happens in that time, and not much is explained in the beginning, you only get told about it when it comes up in conversation between the characters.
The character Abigail, Cassie's cousin, first appears in The Good Witch's Family (2011), which might be interesting if you want to know a bit more about Cassie's past. Any powers aren't explicitly explained though, which is part of the "magic" for me :)

This show started off a little too slow for me with many unanswered questions. I guess I should have watched the TV Movie specials that aired back as early as 2008. I'm sure they give you more of an insight in this witch's life than the first episode of the new TV series. I'm left wondering how she obtained her powers which I'm sure will be answered in the TV movie specials once I get around to watching them.
