Today’s episode was another amazing production by BONES. While Vanitas is my favorite character so far simply because of his personality, Noe is definitely the most intriguing and best written character in the show. I loved how today’s episode explored Noe and Vanitas’ relationship. Seeing Noe struggle with what salvation truly is for the cursed-vampires, whether killing curse-bearers was actually saving them, after Vanitas had to kill a cursed-bearer that was too corrupted really fleshed out Noe’s character, giving him complex inner-struggles he has to deal with, rather than Noe being a one-dimensional character. Noe’s confrontation with Vanitas afterwards was fantastic too, it showed how Noe was just forcing his ideals and hopes onto Vanitas of what saving the vampires really means, and those hopes lead Noe to feel betrayed by Vanitas since he killed the vampire, even though Vanitas was just pursuing his vision of salvation for the vampires and vengeance against Vanitas(the blue vampire). Although near the end of the episode, Vanitas said he was lying about those motives, so I’m not completely sure about that. I’m also glad that Noe realized he shouldn’t jump to conclusions about Vanitas after the killing when he really knows nothing about Vanitas, and that Noe shouldn’t be blaming Vanitas for not living up to his hopes. I liked the conclusion Vanitas and Noe came to about their relationship, after Lord Ruthven saved Vanitas and Noe from being killed by Veronica by taking Noe and Vanitas under his wing. Rather than forcing his ideals onto Vanitas and working for Vanitas, Noe is going to follow Vanitas of his own will to figure out what Vanitas means by salvation, saving the vampires. I feel like this is where Vanitas and Noe’s relationship and journey really begins, and I really wonder why Noe would kill Vanitas in the end (of the journey, not this episode). Like always, the music blessed my ears in this episode, with the dramatic orchestral grand piano music giving this series an intense, suspenseful feeling, and making the series really feel like a vampire drama. I also love the animated sequences for when Vanitas uses his grimoire. The black abyss with the eyes dashing with a lightning effect is such a breathtaking sequence, that just perfectly shows how captivating Vanitas is. I also like the brief glimpses into Noe’s life with his teacher that’s being shown throughout the series. I can’t wait until our current Noe meets him again, and I hope we get to learn more about this mysterious teacher. Speaking of mysterious, I also really want to know more about Vanitas, and what he means by saving the vampires and vengeance against Vanitas (the blue vampire).
