A poor start to the new season. Not because of the topic, but because they just didn't do it in a way that made for a good episode. In the past they've covered similar topics of race and sexuality with Rosa, Terry and Holt, and every one of those episodes just felt better to watch, and like they face the issue they were talking about, better than this one.
It is also not helped by how other US cop shows like The Rookie have already faced this issue and done a much better job of it.

@woffingshire The problem with those episodes is that they usually dealt with those problems by centering on specific cases rather than the whole, which would demand much more work put into it. They had to revisit Holt's career several times to just begin to approach that topic, for instance, because otherwise it would just have been "some people are racists and/or homophobes and that's bad".
As of this episode, we've had Jake's former chief going over several problems but we're left with "shit's broken, what you're gonna do, take the win of the charges being dropped".

@dtsouza Considering how big of an issue this is though, couldn't they do that? This episode didn't feel like an opening to a storyline about it or a theme that'll be in the show now. It felt like a very open and close, self contained story about it cause they felt they needed to address the issue.
