And Just Like That is … disappointing. I keep on watching it every week hoping it’ll get better, but it just doesn’t. 5 episodes in, and it seems like this season is going to be like the Will&Grace reboot - "We're topical. We are 'woke'. Modern references. No plot. No one cares about actual character traits."

The writing of SATC was really cutting edge, the original show was revolutionary for its time, different, bold, ground breaking, always leading the way in female progression, now it is taking us back. The show lost its originality completely and is patronizing the viewers, treating us like idiots with all this in-your-face inclusion of race and gender stuff. And Just Like That is like any other 2021 Hollywood TV show - trying to fit every diversity target and buzz word, so that the Twitter mob won't criticize them for not being inclusive.

I'm nauseous with all the 'woke' content. It’s performative and obviously pandering, and it doesn't come across as authentic to me. I roll my eyes every time a TV show/movie forces the 'wokeness' to such an extent as they do in this show. At that point it's no longer entertainment, it's preaching, they are trying to tell me what to think instead of telling me a story. It's like it is now the job of show runners, actors of color, and producers to 'educate' :face_vomiting: the audience. The original show always tried to include modern liberal topics, the character were the ones who would push the progressive ideas. But now these intelligent, successful women that have lived in NYC for years are portrayed as morons who don't have a clue about society, it's like they've been asleep since 2010.

  • Peegate is Miranda’s revenge on Carrie for the time she left her with a crook neck naked on the floor, and then sent Aidan who saw her naked. I know we change as we grow older but it’s seems like Miranda has had a complete personality change. Miranda in the old shows very self-aware, assertive, hardened resilient figure - now a completely different person. Her storyline is all over the place, she literally has every issue in the book. I was hoping by now she would have made partner at her firm, instead she is acting as a bumbling idiot in the presence of a ‘black’ person.
I had accepted that they were going to force Miranda and Che (because the writers are practically screaming the plot points at us, no subtlety) but not like that. Samantha was sex positive af but she would never disrespect Carrie like that in her own apartment. They had a big storyline about Steve cheating and how upsetting it was to Miranda and now she cheats in her friends kitchen with her friends boss while said friend is recovering from hip surgery. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Miranda is the girlboss, she's managed to get revenge on Carrie and Steve in that one moment.
Is the sudden queer connection with Che more reflective of Cynthia Nixon or Miranda? Because in SATC season 3 Miranda repeat voraciously that she only likes men. This turn seems so random. Che is probably the least funny character from any show. I feel like that character’s whole purpose is just to lecture. Because Che doesn’t have a personality outside of talking about identity. And they’re supposed to be what, like 40? Or at least late 30s. But they act like a prepubescent teenage boy all the time.
I used to ship Miranda and Steve - the original girl boss x male wife couple, with all the ups and downs they went through. Their romance was so perfect, but at this point they have ruined his character and their relationship in every possible way, so I don’t care anymore. I’d prefer a storyline where a married couple can stay together after losing interest in sex, as that is a reality more women face than coming out of the closet in your 50’s.

  • After enduring 5 episodes, I do not care about Brady’s sex life. AT ALL. Of all the characters to tap to take the “always having sex” crown from Samantha, they had to pick Brody? Why?

  • In a proper SATC sequel, Carrie would have the podcast - a natural extension of her writing. But this podcast plotline is so cringey, it’s like middle schoolers discussing sex for the first time with edge ‘jokes’. I would definitely not listen to this podcast.

  • I knew getting older was going to suck but was trying to be optimistic. Not anymore. Apart from trying to appear as 'woke' as possible, the ladies have just one more personality - they are old af. For some reason, they needed to mention every character's age every 2 minutes. They act as if they are in their 70's, not 50's. I bet some 70 years old man is the writer of this storyline.

  • I like that Anthony is taking the fourth spot temporarily. He is probably the best part of the show because he is similar to his character in SATC.

  • If Rose wants a new name, that’s cool, but Rock? ROCK? You could choose anything and you choose that? Is this supposed to be funny?! I…? After episode one I predicted Rose coming as non binary. The whole 'woke' content is just so predictable.

  • The writers still have the nerve to continuously disrespect Samantha (and Kim Catrall). I'm sorry but there is no way Samantha Jones would ghost her best friends. This decision was clearly influenced by the bts stuff. I don't care about what happened between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim. I'm annoyed they put it into the show because it just doesn't make sense for the characters.

  • I think Seema is the new Samantha - decisive, successful, out there, even her wardrobe is giving me Samantha vibes. They need to give her more screen time.

  • Carrie's 'back in heels' outfit from the end of this episode was stunning!

And Just Like That takes these big issues like alcoholism, gender identity, stagnant marriage etc. and goes about them in the most obvious, cliche ways. Because they can’t afford to take risks, it’s all just very predictable. There is no zing and za za zoo to this show at all. That's what I miss the most.
