Hot take: Having watched the original and this back to back this weekend, I have to say...I think I prefer this one as a movie? Characters are more likable, have better motivations and the story flows better. It takes the lore and absurdity of the original and makes a fun action comedy of it. Hemsworths character is pretty one note and the gags around him wear pretty thin almost instantly, but everything else is a fun, extended and better executed version of what came before it. Maybe because I hold very little nostalgia for the original?
