The only part of this movie worth watching is the initial interrogation of Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). The dialogue and Klaatu's subsequent escape were at least slightly entertaining. Other than that this movie was a total throwaway. The effects were marginal. G.O.R.T. the nano-robot was CG-rendered just slightly above Sci-Fi Channel quality CG. The alien ship and smaller alien spheres were the typical bright lights surrounded by a few wispy cloud-like formations. It never even attempted to look real.

The story itself was another run-of-the-mill Hollywood creation. You know the drill. The U.S. military overreacts with aggression complete with a moronic commanding officer tipping us all off that America is the source of all that is wrong with mankind.

Keanu-Klaatu decides that Earth and everything on it must be saved with the exception of man and his creations. This scenario represents the wet dream of the majority of Hollywood, executed on-screen in full view for all of us less informed, hunyucks in Fly-Over Country to pick up on. My only hope is that the makers of this movie found enough of an outlet for their self-loathing that they spared the rest of us from seeing anymore movies like this.
