@tesomayn Hard to say what is'authentic' with no one alive to tell you, and only scant accounts from actual people who lived it. They do far better than the movies and of the 50s and 60s! In Bonanza the Cartwrights wore the same clothes for 10years without dirt or a single patch! :-)
@ohdembein I noticed that a lot of them have insanely white teeth.
@trevskie We know a lot about the way they groomed themselves and what was available to them at the time. Some things they may have decided not to do when in situations like this such as girls wearing pants but we know the limits of the products they could use in their hair and what the average persons teeth looked like.
@drygoatair I haven't bothered looking at their teeth but I would have noticed if they were more authentic because many would have had crooked teeth. It is however possible that some people could have cleaned their teeth quite well and not have had the sugary diets that we have today. Hollywood teeth are so pervasive in these shows, especially one with such a romantic melodramatic vibe as this. If Ennis had the sort of teeth that a cowboy of the time would have had then your average viewer would have found it harder to believe that Elsa would have fallen in love with him and less affected by his departure.

I guess I missed the scene where they came upon a salon and she got her roots done and her hair lightened even more. They forgot her brows though, oops. They go to such great lengths to make some look authentic and dirty and then some just stick out like sore thumbs with how clean and enhanced they are. I really like the show but details like that really take me out of it.
