[7.4/10] I liked but didn’t love the Valentine’s Day-themed A-story here. Bob and Linda aiming to go to a fancy, chic shindig on Valentine’s Day, despite the fact that they’re much more “heat up leftovers and say I love you” people is a good throughline. I’m always up for a good Bob’s Burgers mixup that forces the Belchers to scheme and plot their way to their destination. The episode offered plenty of silliness in that regard, as the couple gets increasingly covered in mud and goat poo in their quest to reach their fancy rendezvous on King’s Head island.

But I feel like we needed more payoff. It’s nice to hear Linda’s “Sometimes you get hit in the boob, but you keep one going and having a good time” lesson. But I wanted to see our disheveled mom and pop restaurateurs walk into the cool foodie V-day special gathering and see the reaction. IT seemed like we needed one more beat to really close things off and the episode just ran out of time. (Even if the two of them bopping on the ferry back home is a nice outro.)

That said, I love love loooooved the B-story. I don’t know why, but I find Jen, the Belchers’ slow-witted, beyond awkward babysitter, to be a nonstop comedy machine. The kids trying to manipulate her into taking them to get discount V-day candy, only to secretly help her on the dorkiest date imaginable with an equally-yoked notary, is downright adorable. There’s plenty of humor to be had from Gene and Tina’s one-liners, and the sheer humor of Jen and her notary crush trying to flirt through notarizing terminology is unbelievably cute and funny in an awkward sort of way. Five stars! Especially since it brings out the best in the kids to finally support the babysitter they’re so used to taking advantage of.

Overall, there’s good material in the Bob and Linda story, but the episode couldn’t quite nail the landing, while the story of the Belcher kids and Jen here is wall-to-wall cupid-approved gold.
