The film is longer than necessary and the political plot is a little difficult to understand right away – perhaps a fault of mine, for not knowing the history of the books. I thought the first hour of the movie was a little drawn out.
But in the second half – especially after Leto's death – the film grows a lot! I didn't really feel the 1h30 pass that followed from there. The story gets quite interesting. The open ending already left me curious and looking forward to the sequel. Judging by the first movie, I think we could be looking at the beginning of a franchise as epic as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Time will tell...
