Asthma 2015

Maybe there's something about this movie that draws out emotions that have little or nothing to do with the movie itself, but I am about to add to that: there is a quality about Benedict Samuel's face that makes me want to punch through it, out the back of his skull, like have you ever seen Sin City?
Anyway, that's not part of the review. Apparently I'm not alone in wanting to watch Asthma simply because Krysten Ritter is in it. She's been the reason I've watched a few movies that I normally wouldn't have devoted any time to. Krysten Ritter is hot, that's what I'm trying to say.
What am I getting at here? The movie is very 1960s. It's a road movie for millennials. It comes in, goes nowhere, then leaves.
I just noticed the synopsis here is wrong. Gus is not a musician. Ruby is seeing a musician at the time when she, and Gus meet. Gus is a junkie, that is his defining trait. And yeah, they are in a stolen car for a few minutes, but then it breaks down, and they have to walk. The bulk of the runtime is the two of them hanging out at Ruby's friend's house.
I think the real problem with the movie is that it's just moving around pieces. Nothing happens. The characters are either unlikeable or never developed. I kind of liked our weird group of hippies. Hell, I think Gus could have been likable if we had learned more about his past. Ruby was the best part for me, but that's just because I could watch Ritter play the most garbage person imagined and still fall in love with her.
My main issue with this story is that it's trying to make heroin addiction seem cute or romantic. Sorry, I literally watched Black Metal Veins before this, if you want to see what drug abuse is like, go watch that.
Who is this for? I don't know. Not me, but I could see it totally being for someone. Maybe if you had a troubled past, and managed to pull yourself out, you might like this.
Do you know what I just realized? The writer/director of this is Dustin Hoffman's son. Hollywood nepotism, ladies, and gentlemen.
