Fairly weak start.
The show is giving me the impression that it's trying to appear more clever than it actually is. It opens with the most common misconception about the butterfly effect and chaos theory. Maybe the show is trying to paint the protagonist as a fool who thinks himself a genius, but I doubt it.
I see 2 interesting ways the story could go:
1. Larry Hall is not the serial killer but Detective Miller is determined that he is and Jimmy needs to get a confession out of him.
2. Larry Hall IS the serial killer but he suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID), which is very common among serial killers (I recommend watching the documentary Crazy, Not Insane). His background, psychological profile and behavior do support that.
