Devotion 2022

I really wanted to love this movie.

Visually, it's absolutely gorgeous! Unfortunately, the "friendship" which is supposed to be the emotional core of the movie rings completely hollow.

One of the two main characters is not a character at all. Lt. Hudner has literally zero characteristics (except not being racist), and the movie fails to make me care about him or even believe that he's a real person.
Why does he care about Jesse so much? Because he's black? Because Daisy asked him to in their one short conversation?

Such a disappointment. Not a terrible movie, but it could really have been great.

If you've never served, it's probably extremely difficult to grasp the friendships and bonds that develop very quickly

I never served and straight up understood why Hudner cared about Jesse.

This is not a story from scratch, its a real life story btw.

Someone as Hudner, having to find his purpose and his new adventure he goes on seeing everything through pink sunglasses. Until he meets Jesse, seeing how people are outside the war itself.

The things Jesse says to himself into the mirror when Hudner hears him 2 times actually.

Hudner thinks he is doing Jesse a favor or helping him (as we all tend to do because we never went through what black people went through) but in the end he is either making things just worse or not have any effect which he doesn’t get why until the very end with Jesse.
