George & Tammy is an absolute roller coaster, what a sad story. The show follows the usual biopic arc of success->addiction->rock bottom.

I'm no expert at all on singing, I'm sure if I knew more about keys and such, I may see less of their singing but I'm especially in awe over the fact that Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon actually did their own singing. Also, I can't compare it with the original, as I'm not into country music at all, just watched this to see the talent involved. But who on the planet ever could sound like George other than George? This show is not about simulating vocals. No one could ever imitate the likes of Tammy or Jones. Better to have proper actors portraying the characters well and get close-ish on the singing. I prefer this style, and I appreciate the effort these two actors put in to their roles, both of them do a decent job with the singing parts, and are brilliant at the acting parts. If they had dubbed or something else, I'd be complaining way louder about that.

I wonder how close the story jives with reality? I looked it up - Tammy was 26, George was 37 when they met. Jessica Chastain is 42 Michael Shannon is 48 making portrayals not that accurate. Michael Shannon isn't too bad but there is a marked difference between 26 and 42. Would have been more interesting to see actress in her mid 20s do early Tammy.

The TV series is based off of Tammy's autobiography and their daughter is involved in production. So I'm not surprised the show would portray events more through Tammy's perspective. I'm mad that Richey was able to get his hands all over Tammy's possessions, she had horrible taste in men! I thought George Jones was awful but this Richey guy is waaay worse.

It's really touching how George and Tammy never stopped caring for and loving one another, that last scene of them all singing together just like the old days was a beautiful way to finish the show. What a nice way to show the good and the ugly parts of life.

This series was very well done, great attention to detail in art direction, costumes. If you're looking for something to watch, even if you don’t care for country music, I think you'll love it.
