I guess they wanted to humanize Keeler a bit before he gets sent off, because he was an asshole in the previous season (or he at least was a minor antagonist), which is why they introduced his son. But it seemed kind of pointless. Should've been started earlier in the season, if they wanted it to have more impact.
Love how Jack can review personnel files and talk to a fighter jet from his ordinary flip phone in his car.
Honestly, the episode should've ended with Jack's question of whether or not the plane got hit. Having that little bit after kind of squandered the tension. It was a pretty good episode overall, though!
