Wouldn’t it be easier and safer to put the robots (replicas) on the space mission? Like duh? They do not need life support system, food, and physical activity. Would it be nicer if they actual humans stayed in their homes and spend their time with family?

Somehow, the pilot of story twisted to make us watch 80 minutes episode, almost as long as a movie. Just to tell us that we need to take care of our family and loved ones! The only explanation for this movie plot is that the astronauts were already in a long distance space mission and later on, they have decided to make the replicas for their families.

@masoudhaghi Problem is they verify they were there when they made them, and that's why they couldn't make another one for the one guy, so totally agree with you. Makes no logical sense the replicas wouldn't just be the ones in space.

@masoudhaghi yeah, the setup for this one made no sense and was not adequately explained.

@masoudhaghi Beyond the handwaive that they're studying the effects of human life in space, I don't think it'd make more sense to have the replicas in space. Aaron Paul's character is shown having trouble with his grip in the opening scenes. You'd want those sort of problems to be happening in the lower stakes personal life on earth instead of on the high-stakes mission if you're in charge.

@masoudhaghi damn, exposed the whole episode in one sentence. Savage!

@masoudhaghi Why did the cult kill one replica's family, but not the other?

@genesisx because they were apprehended , duh. Did you not see the news clip?

@the_argentinian Obviously, but why make it a plot point, if NASA, or whomever, never sends out agents to protect Cliff?

@masoudhaghi during the episode they mentioned that the replicas were made while the humans were still on Earth. This episode makes no sense!

@masoudhaghi That's an easy assessment to make in since they didn't make a better effort to explain it the average viewer probably won't be able to come up with viable explanations. It wouldn't have been that hard to make better sense of it and they may even have scripted scenes to do just that but as you said, it was quite long already so they probably decided to leave it out. There were a number of issues with the logic, as there often is with this type of story. The stories effectively act as analogies to explain some specific aspect of the human condition that holds up a black mirror to us. as with any analogy there will be aspects of the comparison that don't make sense but so long as they don't affect the operative component, it can usually be ignored. As LandoBBQ pointed out, they made a vague attempt to indicate that the robots weren't very physically precise but this could have been accentuated by suggesting that they glitched here and there in a way that would be unsafe when performing duties on the space station.... Why didn't Harnett contact the authorities for help? Why is the tech so advanced to create these perfect robots and yet limited to the period in so many other ways? Why wouldn't they have a video link to the space control room on earth if they have a link good enough to operate a replica of themselves? In order to get to the core of the issue their will always be plenty of holes, none of them directly affected the central story.
