Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Season 4

4x25 Body Parts

On the one hand it's sad that our beloved little Ferengis are rarely be participating in a serious episode. But on the other hand Quark's talent for comedy is unrivaled in the franchise and thus writers have an obligation to tell fun stories with him. Would be a shame to not capitalize in this asset. Quark and co make this episode another extremely entertaining 45 minutes. Quark being a hypochondriac (which he isn't technically since he can't know better) is great. And Rom and Brunt (kudos to Combs by the way. He made both his characters favorites of mine) are great too. If that's not enough, DS9 achieves to teach us a lot about Ferengi culture, their economy and Quark's character. And since this comedy has some dark undertones (death is waiting on the doorsteps after all :-), it's also the first time that you realize that Quark is also an outsider who happens to have a great (extended) family to support him.

The B-plot with the O'Brien baby is also great. Medical sci-fi is great. It's a medical marvel. I always liked all things related to future medicine and sick bay. Not even insipid Julian explaining what happened can take this away. I wish they showed this scene. Kira and Keiko interacting is another great aspect. I wish Keiko could always be that likeable. Too often she was portrayed as some sort of Skyler White in space. (PS: Worf should have been on that shuttle and should have played a role in saving the baby and Keiko. It's a tradition ...)
