Josh seems utterly obsessed with condemning and imprisoning Murphy, probably because of his consuming anger at her for using him for information and/or his inability to face his own blame for leaking the information in the first place.
If he can't calm down enough to set that aside long enough to listen, he'll continue to be unable to hear or process any explanation of [the crazily complex and horrible story of] what happened.
