Shout by Tony Bates

Great Expectations 1946

I'm not a fan of Dickens and remember truly hating this book when I was in school. The plot points are still a bit fuzzy and befuddling, but at the same time this movie was so beautiful it's possible to gloss over the implausibilities. Every character feels perfectly cast, the production design is gorgeous, and it does its best to overcome the literary-ness of its source material.
