Yes, you’ve guessed it loud mouthed and fast talking Detroit detective Axel Foley is once again headed to Beverly Hills. This time the directing reins go to Tony Scott (Top Gun) and once again produced by the (80’s 90’s) action two-some Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. For me personally the sequel doesn’t have the same magic as the first. There are glimpses though, Eddie Murphy is on fine form yet again as Foley, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton once again on fine form and allowed more comedic freedom in the sequel than they did in the first, which is understandable. The soundtrack unlike my love of the first has some good tracks "Shakedown" by Bob Seger probably being the best song on the entire OST having been nominated for an Academy Award. Overall, Beverly Hills Cop 2, where it doesn’t have the magic or the timing of the first movie it’s still an enjoyable action comedy. Tony Scott does a very good job, from the chaotic and well shot action scenes we know and love from other Scott and Simpson/Bruckheimer productions.
