I think the fact that the FBI agent could not see the security camera footage should mean that the particles are some sort of entity.
At this point, I think it's also clear(er) what's happening. Jo is now in universe B where she cheated on her husband. She died in universe B and Paul did not and vice versa.
I'm HOOKED and really interested in how the writers are going to explain such a complex subject.
