for the comment above, Tony doesn't change in this episode because it ends with him realizing he has to change. that's why it's a good ending. it's the realization that hits so hard, not the change itself.
For an episode titled Effy, nearly nothing has to do with her, and that's what makes this episode so great. the one thing Tony truly cared for and has a hold on after all the crap that's happened (and what he deserves) almost leaves him. and thus, cascading into him finally doing something for someone else and learning that only he likes himself. I don't do it justice, but that on top of the work done with Sid combines to create a truly great episode
