Fun episode, but you have to turn most logic off to get the most fun out of it. You have to accept that the holodeck is basically magic for the purposes of fitting the plot. (How does a hologram bullet cause a real life-threatening injury? What?!) One of the best parts was when they were first being held at gunpoint, they were all amused and excited about it.
$20 a day in 1941? That's prohibitively expensive! I assumed that was going to be a joke about how the crew is from so far in the future, they have no grasp of the old economy. But the holodeck lady just accepted that without batting an eye.
