I saw Playtime first, which I thought was brilliant, so this felt a little comparatively underwhelming through no fault of its own. It's just that it covers similar comedic territory and the shtick hasn't been perfected like it will be in Tati's later work. But still, this is a lovely movie (with a lovely, more comforting vibe than Playtime) and I can't believe Tati isn't as well known as Keaton and Chaplin. While this obviously isn't a silent movie, it sort of functions as one and feels very much of a piece as the early comedy greats.
