The sex was motivated by the situation, not gratuitous. It's similar to living in a war zone or in a concentration camp. People tend to get it on like crazy when they're not sure if they are going to see tomorrow. And each thought they had lost the other, so it was romantic despite also being rather primal and aggressive. In other words, it was sex.
It was totally out of place and cringeworthy.
The reasoning for the wife was because he was 2 hours too late what never happens - over the top drama.
While the husband was a "badass", insulting the guy abducting him, not even knowing he would be let go again - contradictory to the sex scene. The setup for this "situation" was simply awful and not believeable at all.

Josh Holloway: acting range of a potato.
It's not very clear what his character Will Bowman is supposed to be. The "cool" dad making inappropriate jokes about chicken eggs to his daughter; the reliable dad making breakfast for his children; a badass agent, getting into the occupied area and even arrogantly insult the guy who's most likely responsible for his abducting; the PTSD-ing dad who lost his son and would sacrifice his life and f*ck over his remaining family just to find him; a sex hungry beast, doing his wife after he was abducted and finally gets home again? Wait, it's all of it? Oh, boy.
Looked forward to this as it seemed intriguing but the pilot does nothing for me.
The directing was awful, skipable and in context absurd sex scenes, other cringeworthy scenes and the plot / establishing was heavy handed and messy.
Cast is full of unknown actors, except for Josh who was in Lost, that yet unnamed woman in that resistance looking gathering who plays Sheriff Mills in Supernatural, the actress playing Lori in The Walking Dead and perhaps Peter Jacobson, who was in Dr. House quite a long time. But while I know Lori from TWD despite not watching that show I never even heard of Jacobson who had a role in a lot of series. I am also already sick of watching scenes with cardboard Gonzalo Menendez in it.
Too bad.
