Better Call Saul: Season 2

2x09 Nailed

Mike's ingenuity will always be my favorite part of both shows. Sure, Walt had some creative (if not audacious) ways of executing his plans, but Mike was all about quiet espionage, which is why he was so damn good at his work.

"Oh, what, I did all this for some business?"

Chuck to Kim: "He did it for you."

Chuck McGill is one of the biggest gangrenous taints on this show, but not because he intentionally held Jimmy back and clearly hated Jimmy having a law degree, but that said, he knew exactly why Jimmy did the shit he did, and this moment is one of the few times when rewatching the show that makes me think, "Damn, he was more perceptive than I used to give him credit for."

"I know he's not perfect! And I know he cuts corners, but you're the one who made him this way. He idolizes you. He accepts you, he takes care of you. And all he ever wanted was your love and support. But all you've ever done is judge him. You never believed in him, you never wanted him to succeed. And you know what? I feel sorry for him. And I feel sorry for you."

The hardest part about this exchange is that both Chuck and Kim were completely right. Chuck needed to be put in his place regarding Jimmy, but Chuck wasn't wrong about Jimmy's sabotage. Yeah, his presentation needed work because he was so successfully gaslit by Jimmy that he seemed far more unstable than he did when he was hospitalized in season one.

Oh, God, I totally forgot about Jimmy and the UNM film department filming outside of a school. Really reminds me of when Mac and Charlie were carrying a sword and gun while attempting to get hired as school security guards on Always Sunny. https://youtu.be/90P4xDwLpGo?t=111

"If the driver knows you, that's bad for both of us."

"That shouldn't concern you."

"But he was in on it, right?"

"Driver had nothing to do with it."

"Then who?"

"Just me."

"You telling me you did this without someone on the inside? Not possible. How did you know about the truck? The tires?

"All I can tell you is that you guys aren't half as smart as you think you are."

"The cops? The cops don't know shit about it."

"How's that?"

"Is that what this is about? You wanted to put the cops on Hector? Why? You are nothing to him! He forgot all about you!"

"I haven't forgotten about him."

It's moments like that really explains why Gus Fring was so impressed by Mike's methodology.

"Your brother is one smart lawyer."

"The smartest one I know. I mean, no offense."

"He'd make quite an adversary."

"You better believe it."

"The kind of adversary who'd find even the smallest crack in your defense."

Ladies and gentlemen: Jimmy McGill is about to have his "Gale Boetticher is a 'genius of meth'?" moment

Fuck, the sound of Chuck's head hitting that counter, and Jimmy's reaction, is more gruesome than the entirety of of American History X's curb-stomp scene.
