I'm so looking forward to this. There is an interview with Stiller in Empire (Oct 2013) where he talks about going back to the original short-story and how the scripts flipped on the original Danny Kaye musical (1947); instead of trying to 'escape' from his henpecking wife he's trying to pursue his love interest (Kristen Wiig). He was offered the lead in 2005 for a failed adaptation that was in the works but it was just an update of that musical and said "All it was going to be was 'not as good as the original'". It was this major change that really excited him.
Stiller says "We're aiming for something indefinable". Early footage says he's nailed it.
It opens in Australia on December 26th and was an easy choice as my traditional Boxing Day movie.
