@phug The program was developed in Belgium in 1998. After three seasons they stopped making the show (not because of lack of interest; it was very popular). It was picked up again in 2016 by a different network, after the success of the Dutch version of the show, which has been one of the most popular tv shows in the Netherlands from 1999 until now.
Both Belgian (Flemish) and Dutch versions are in Dutch.

BTW, that first mission was an exact copy of the first mission of the 9th season in Belgium. Only there, there were back-ups for each of the original contestants and anyone could be replaced. With a maximum of three, if I remember correctly. In the end, one was.
