How so many PhDs can not know that the word data is the plural form is beyond me... and shameful.

@beernbugs For many or most of them, English isn't their first language. Can you exercise perfect grammar in every one of their 24 distinct European languages? And that's just the major official languages of the EU, let's not forget the dozens of legitimate regional dialects.

Then you have the fact that even English speakers don't all agree on how to conjugate verbs with the word "data". Depends on the journal you are trying to publish to, or the field of work you happen to be in. Not sure if a link will work in this comment but I'll paste one from Washington State University on the topic. General punchline which I've heard my whole professional life: Go with the flow, and don't let a verb conjugation distract you from the essence of a subject.

So I am sorry to be confrontational, but your comment ticked me off. You should be the one suffering in shame here. If your only take-away from this documentary about one of the greatest achievements of mankind is grammatical, then I am very sad for you. The "datas" "is" written on the wall, you've managed to not find the beach because of a grain of sand.

@callmetrimtab it’s Latin, not English.

@callmetrimtab It’s not my takeaway, it’s still a great discovery. If your only takeaway from my comment is that I missed the significance of the work then I’m very sad for you.
