@schwarzwolf A reply 6 years after you posted this but for whoever else comes across it I'll comment anyway. Vanessa basically forgot most of what happened during her stay at the mental facility and is remembering what took place through the hypnosis session.
It's safe to say she forgot everything after the surgery and at the point the cut-wife taught her Verbis Diablo she genuinely didn't know she spoke it before. As to how she knew the Verbis Diablo at that moment without being taught? It probably came to her naturally, being who she is and all.

In the Vanessa Ives Timeline when exactly was her stay at the mental facility? I thought it was before meeting the cut-wife but yet she is speaking the verbis diablo in this episode. Was that the Vanessa with Dr. Seward speaking maybe? That part was a bit confusing.
The acting and the atmosphere of this show is intense. I loved how the viewer doesnt leave the white room either.
