Joe's never been my favorite character, and I don't know that I ever really needed to see his backstory, but connecting his childish acting out with Nurse Bendy's arrested development is an interesting choice. It adds a little depth to each of them, as their connected by an older father figure who seems to have done wrong, or at least neglected both of them. It does help explain Bendy's teddy bear family obsession, and her throwing away Sonny Bear because she has Joe is a nice touch. Some of it's a little on the nose, but for a season that's trafficked in so much darkness, Joe and Bendy finding solace with one another is a very pleasant little ray of sunshine.
