I saw someone saying that after saying Paul Bettany in this movie, it was impossible to not want Vision to live in Infinity war and now that i've seen this movie, i get it. He's simply awesome.
This movie is just so goddamn charming. The cast is great. The story is mostly formulaic and the anachronisms amount to basically a gimmick, but you have to be heartless not to be won over by its charm anyway.
Life changing when I first watched all them years ago and still a great watch today!
"You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. In what world could you possibly beat me?"
I didn't know what to expect, but I really loved this cast and the soundtrack. This is what you call pure fun. Tudyk and Bettany are such a great addition and Heath Ledger has one of those faces you just can't resist. I am glad I finally got to watch this!
Never though I would see Joker and Vision together
Honestly if you don't like this movie then you have no soul. It's not technically impressive and it doesn't have particularly unique story but this movie has fucking heart up the wazoo. The characters are all lovable, the message is delivered very effectively, the comedy hits the nail right on the head, the jousting is really well done, and I personally love the anachronistic music choices. It also has a ton of rewatch value, I have no idea why but it just never gets old. If you haven't seen this movie then watch it ASAP.
Should have > 90% though ;p
Just rewatched it ... again. It has absolutely everything. An amazing setting, a brilliant story filled with dreams, fear, treason, humour, action, romance and adventure. to top it off its realy well produced and starring some amazing acting performances.
it's just so good :o even knowing the ending takes nothing away from it. I don't get it. I must have seen it more than 6 times already.
I had better memories of this movie. But it's been twenty years (really ?!) so I probably saw it different then.
To be honest, the story isn't very original and it's very predictable. And William isn't the most likeable character either. In a weird way the mix of medieval tale and contemporary style works. It makes it entertaining and the story almost becomes negligible. I found Christiana more beautiful but that's just me. Rufus Sewell gives you an adversary you love to hate.
The Jousting scenes are absolutely awesome. It really pays off that those were done as in-camera stunts. Everytime a knight gets hit you kinda wince in your chair.
“A Knight’s Tale” is a 2001 American medieval, adventure, comedy, and romance film and stars the late Heath Ledger as squire William Thatcher. This film is loosely based on Geoffrey Chaucer (played in the film by Paul Bettany)’s The Canterbury Tales.
I’ll begin by saying that it’s been a while since I’ve watched “A Knight’s Tale,” so my memory will be lacking. That being said, I can’t bring myself to love it as much as everyone else who’s raving about the film in the comments. Was the plot interesting? I guess. Although it takes points from Chaucer’s work, it does incorporate modern elements (including a racially ambiguous female lead) and great music from the 70s. Was Ledger committed to his role of a cool-headed optimist? Yeah. How was the set design? Great. How was the banter between Thatcher’s mates? Funny and charming. In the end, I thought “A Knight’s Tale” was pretty... good, but not outstanding.
I think I’d rewatch again, just to (try to) see what the fuss is about.
I'll always catch this movie by the golden years dance scene, never from the beginning
still remembered how many times Paul Bettany shouted in this movie, not that fantastic movie but enjoyable, good humor still can't believe that ulrich von lichtenstein will become joker later
Such a good fun movie. All the better for the anachronistic moments.
And the banter between Tudyk and Bettany, as well as the chemistry of the whole band makes it just brilliantly watchable over and over again.
It never gets any less entertaining, no matter how many times I rewatch it.
A medieval underdog movie with a classic rock soundtrack. Peculiar but certainly amusing.
Seen late, 20 years after its release, maybe that's why I have a hard time seeing it as a classic like many people do.
Generally, it's fun. Story is simple and straightforward, and of course you fell compelled to root for this peasant defying nobles.
Acting is good, specially Bettany (!), Leger and Tudyk.
But still some issues.
Basic principle is that this kid, with absolutely no training or experience, is just naturally the best knight ever. Apart from a short sequence "training" with his non-knight, not even soldiers, zero experience companions in the beginning, there is no point in the story ever where he's shown working for this skill.
Notably in the last tournament, not only is he good, but he is so good that he can win with a HUGE handicap. Not sure how these tournaments work, it's not by elimination or he would be instantly out, so probably who gets the more points. And in manages to win while starting very much in the negative...
Mainly, what a fucking asshole ! He's there, pushing, blackmailing his friends to achieve his dream. He gets all the honor and fame, the good life, palace banquets, flirting with princesses, and even getting an official knighthood in the end, while they're doomed to just stay peasants and basically serve him.
And he's pushing them, repeatedly, like a child throwing a tantrum, with no thought at all for their lives and safety.
Until he's fixated on one thing: beating Adhemar. Throwing away the money, the good life, his friends' lives, not even caring about being a knight or winning tournaments. Just like a child obsession because the guy provoked him as in a school's playground. GROW THE FUCK UP !
And it's even worse in his interactions with Jocelyn.
The "love story" is super cringe. Sees a hot girl in the street, basically stalks her and whistles her. Then keeps going until he gets her. When she gets a bit closer he basically tells her to fuck off cause she's just a stupid woman. Yet she stills comes running after an "I miss you" letter (that does not seem to contain any apology for his awful behavior by the way).
Lol at the scene where she says "she sees the real him", because, yes, she did. When he told her to her face that she was stupid. Then she came back because of the letter (definitely not the real him, not even written by him) followed by the church scene where she can again directly see the real him: incapable of providing what she's asking, proving that the letter was certainly not him, clearly stating that she's inferior, again throwing a tantrum and rushing out.
It's kinda hard to appreciate when the main character is such a fucking piece of shit.
A decent movie for sure but after only remembering the "We will rock you" scene for over a decade, I expected a very different movie.
It felt in the beginning like it was more of a silly movie à la Asterix & Obelix with lots of funny anachronisms but then overall it's quite normal so to speak.
It felt a bit repetitive and I also didn't particularly care much about the characters.
Overall I did enjoy it but I was expecting more comedy.
Stay seated for an after credits scene where the main characters fart for a minute, exactly what I needed to make me feel even more conflicted about this movie.
"You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. In what world could you possibly beat me?"</B
I think this was one of the first movies I ever bought on DVD with my own money and I think if I remember it correctly, have only watched it like twice? I always knew Heath Ledger starred in A Knight's Tale but I totally forgot about Alan Tudyk. That guy is so much fun! Enjoyed him here a lot.
What I also never forgot about was the scene with the Queen song "We Will Rock You" and I doubt I ever will. It never annoyed me that they've used music from our time instead of a middle ages soundtrack. I thought it was fun. Even the fashion Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) wears was a fun look. What I also really enjoyed were the Jousting scenes. It looked really well. And damn that was some Nike armor!
A Knight's Tale might be a bit long with it 132 minute runtime but it is a fun trip to the middle ages with a fun cast. They take it a bit too seriously but that never bothered me. All in all it was a fun trip down memory lane!
really love this movie they did a great job recreating the era so historically accurate down to every detail

I'm going to become friends with a lama.
Only on "the Life of Brian"-scale this movie would score as it does now (13 june 2012 86%)
