This was my introduction to Jerry Lewis, and I spent the whole time wondering what in Christ I was watching. He struck me as a 50's version of the worst versions of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler--someone of obvious intelligence and talent, playing to the lowest denominator in the highest balcony. But still, there was something arresting about his physicality that kept him teetering JUST on this side of irritating. That said, Shirley MacLaine was the real standout here, along with a suprisingly horny screenplay.
I must not be a Martin & Lewis guy. I never laughed once at this, though I know many find it amusing. Lightweight enough, to be sure, and the music was fine. I just don't think their films gel with me.
