Babylon 5: The Road Home 2023

That was an absolute love letter to the series we all love. A whistle-stop tour of what was, what is, and what may never be, but through it all is love, tenderness, and a respect for wonderful characters and actors we miss.

A must see for fans!

A wonderful coda to the Babylon 5 saga. It gives us a chance to look across the history of the world J. Michael Straczynski created, allowed us to reunite with some old friends, and in the end even gave us a glimpse of hope for the future of Babylon 5. Very much worth waiting for.

Wow, I had forgotten just how much I loved Babylon 5! It was great to have the team back together. After seeing what had been done to Star Wars, Star Trek, and many others I was VERY worried this was going to be woke garbage, fortunately that was a dodged bullet. The only real negative was the drawing style for the animation, it's next to impossible to to tell who is who (with a couple of obvious exceptions like Londo and G'Kar) until their names are mentioned. I hear this is the first step to a new B5 series, as long as they keep to this standard, I'm all for it!

:heart:x7
I believe this is supposed to be a prelude to the new revival of Babylon 5 series.

It was good to see (even just in animated form) and hear our old B5 friends again, and am looking forward to the revival of the show.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

It's so good to visit the B5-verse again - sad to see so many of the protagonists have died since the end of the series. Of course, I'd have hoped for a new live-series, but if this is the way B5 can be continued, I'll take it! Especially if it fits in so well into the universe.

A great movie and expansion on the lore of the series

I'm torn concerning this. I love B5 it's one of the best shows ever made. Ever since its ending JMS is trying to revive and/or prolong it despite the fact he already made it perfect. During that span just producing needless movies that didn't add anything of meaning.
This one feels exactly like that. It has the been there, done that, got the T-shirt and came back kind of story. Another story arc shoehorned into the excisting one. And the conclusion is rather, well, eye-rolling. There where some funny moments but that's about it.
And there is an elephant in the room. Since many of the original cast have passed away they only could make this an animated movie. And it feels wrong and off. The voices are close but still alien. The characters don't really look like their real life versions. It didn't felt like B5.

Since JMS is still working on the B5 remake, with the possible date being pushed further along ona yearly basis, this didn't soften my concerns that we will get anything close to the original.

I did enjoy it, but…

There were too many misogynistic jokes in there which felt out of place and really diminished the “not the one” line from Zathras about Lochley with their earlier inclusion…

The animation style is not a favourite of mine and I really disliked the Shadows.

It was so short that nothing felt explored and B5ish… the series was a wonderful in-depth exploration, this was a few minutes in each timeline/reality without much more than was needed for the plot to happen…

JMS has suggested this could be part of a series of spin off movies (separate to the live action reboot I believe) and where he’s left it is an interesting proposition - Shadows not wakened, but with enough tantalising hints for them to go do so… fun 8-)
