Brazil 1985

Brazil has been on my list of shame for a while. i dont know why i never got to it, especially in my early 20s. now, much like Trainspotting, it saddens me how much of my life has been lived without this movie in it.
dystopian future run by bureaucracy, oppressive machinery, wwii Britain vibe, CYA at all costs, that over-the-topness that gilliam pulls off with such finesse. this is a movie only gilliam could pull off well. in the hands of most others, it would be an absurd travesty. while i loved every viewing of Naked Lunch ive had over the years, i wish this had been substituted for a few of them.

grey steampunk.

The fact that this movie has some stunning visuals and quirky characters can't disguise the fact that it's boring. Some consider it Terry Gilliam's masterpiece but "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" and "12 Monkeys" are much more entertaining films. I didn't care about the lead characters in "Brazil", either. I thought they were thin and dull, with only Robert DeNiro's appearance worthy of note.

A smart critic against the bureaucracy, certainly is one of the craziest movies that I've ever seen! The story remembered me a lot one of my favorite books: 1984. This movie got to show all the horror of its universe and the ending is great!

What a mad film with an odd cast, I love it thought, and that's what you get with Terry Gilliams films. I've seen them all and this comes off the madness to me. I thought I'd understand it even more the second time around but i was bloody wrong. It came of even more mind blowing. ha

It's 2 hours long, yet without a storyline to speak of. I don't understand what I just watched.

Easily one of the best films i have seen, the production dsign is amazing, the acting is amazing, is pretty much a terry gilliam movie at heart, so a lot of thing taht make Terry Gilliam amazing are there, lots of cameos, the cinematpgraphy is amazing, the soundtrack is really impressive and catchy.

Dont watch the us version, as it has some changes that i dont like. What a awesome world that they built.

This movie is the definition of a fever dream. All over the place, bright and bizarre. Like many of the other comments the exclamation of “What did I just watch” is right. It’s such a long movie as well. Genuinely just baffled.

This is one of those films that must be seen more than once to fully appreciate. I recommend listening to the audio commentary (it's on Youtube). There are so many little details that you might have missed.

I was surprised that such good combination of comedy, parody and dystopian drama was almost unknown in a period where dystopian cinema and literature is generally well followed by the audience. Masterpiece or close.

Fantastic, certainly among the best sci-fi films of the ‘80s. Within 5 minutes you know who’s directing this, it’s just so Terry Gilliam in every way. It’s quite a challenging one, as well as highly eccentric and idiosyncratic, but very rewarding and conceptual in the end. No real complaints besides the first act being a tad messy.

8.5/10
