A beautiful story with great characters that both children and adults will enjoy!
The animation is still very good, even though it's an old movie. The music is simply amazing.
not so cool as Spirited Away but it has a nice story line
Sky pirates, misunderstood robots and a mysterious city in the sky. The first hour is cute and does a great job at capturing the magic of childhood. An easy watch and Sheeta & Pazu make an interesting duo but I was starting to get a little bored. A long start but luckily all hell breaks loose and the adventure finally starts in the second half and I was glued to the screen. Cool robots, the city was so beautiful and the adventure was engaging but it's not to the level of Nausicaä. It's a step up with the animation though. A bit too long. Pazu's determination is truly beautiful to watch throughout. Epic third act.
Dr. Robotnik makes a cameo appearance
"La Puta " means The Whore in Spanish. If you select the Spanish audio is pretty funny how they keep saying laputa all the time!
Another beautiful and moving picture by Studio Ghibli, always brings a feel good effect.
I’ll never get bored of the similar art style and characters in most of the Ghibli’s franchise and the peaceful and beautiful soundtrack that goes with them.
Just 3 more now to tick off my watch list.
While slow to start, and a little hard to follow, Castle in the Sky turns out to be a wonderful adventure that any fan of Ghibli should see!
HOLY FUCK, WHAT A BIG AND EPIC ADVENTURE
Sky pirates, ancient robot friends, crystal islands. Many moments of peaceful silence.
Rated a Connor 5, normal 7.3
The original title of the film is Tenkû no Shiro Rapyuta, Laputa.
Easy like a long Saturday morning.
I'm awaiting my AAC (Age Appropriate Critic, 9 year old Sophie)'s review of this, but I will put in my two cents, while I wait.
Hayao Miyazaki and his Studio Ghibli, changed the world of Anime. It's influences transcended the borders of Japan, and even Disney, a company as American as apple pie, borrows the brilliance of Ghibli. Miyazaki captures both the imagination of a child and the subtle nuances of movement and response unique to childhood. Often the times of greatest brilliance are things happening in the background. Miyazaki waste neither frame nor background character. CASTLE IN THE SKY has all that quality. I watched the version with an American voice cast and the performances were good. The story took awhile to reveal itself, although it began with rapid paced action, which rather set the slower pace for the story amid a plethora of brilliant animation, imagination and characterization. To paraphrase a fellow commentator, although it is not one of my favourite Ghibli story, the lesser in world of Ghibli is still a masterpiece. I give this film an 8 (great) out of 10. For me it's one of Ghibli's worse movies... and it still kicks ass of course.
